Hello, my name is Krupa Parikh. I joined AmeriCorps because I enjoyed engaging in community service opportunities throughout college, and thought it would be gratifying to commit and year to national service.
Most of the community service opportunities that I was a part of in the past were direct service activities, and I was excited at the prospect of organizing and managing campaigns and volunteer activities as a VISTA. One of the most appealing aspects of working as a VISTA is the idea of working with people across all cultures and backgrounds. My driving force for joining AmeriCorps was because I knew I would have a unique opportunity to understand the needs of my community and my potential to help fulfill these them. As a VISTA, I would have a good balance between organizing programs and seeing their direct impact in the community. I am very passionate about hunger issues and proper nutrition. I believe the proper nutrition is a pillar for maintaining health, and that health is the foundation in which a society can flourish. Thus, I was excited by the idea of helping people acquire nutrition through Shared Harvest foodbank and through helping them apply for food assistance through the Benefit Bank, and jumped on the opportunity.
I majored in Molecular Genetics and minored in Dance at Ohio State University. I am very interested in the science of the body and I am pursuing a career in medicine. My desire to be a doctor is rooted in my passion for helping people and my inquisitiveness about the human body.
